Shared Assets is at a point of transition. We are looking for two to three new non-executive directors to support the organisation as it moves through this transition phase into its next stage.
This is a great opportunity to join the board of an ambitious, self managing, small organisation that is actively experimenting with organisational form, and distributing power. These roles have some voluntary and some paid elements, and we are looking for people who are both committed to the mission and vision of Shared Assets and excited about being part of the adventure of the next stage.
The role of a Shared Assets non-executive director is very much one of enable, support and challenge and not of command-and-control. We value our non-executive board members as they provide valuable insight, strategic direction, and help keep the organisation honest, focussed and sustainable. The staff team provides the leadership, develops the strategy, and delivers the work.
We are looking for people who, in particular:
- Have experience of being marginalised by the dominant land system in some way, and are interested in using that experience to create systemic change.
- Are interested in and passionate about our mission to reimagine what we can do with land, together.
- You might have direct land management experience (whether as a community grower, a farmer, an estate manager, a woodlander or another land professional), but this is not essential.
- We are especially interested in hearing from people with experience of building movements for social justice.
- Have some experience and insight to share that will help our business model
- Have experience of income generation, fundraising and investment in the social enterprise sector
- Have experience of communications and narrative development as a driver of social change
- Are interested in organisational development
- A key part of this role is helping us tackle complex issues as a small ambitious and evolving organisation - you might have direct experience of this or just be really interested in how it could work.
Applications will be submitted through an online form with 3 questions, and an attachment of your CV, LinkedIn profile or personal website. Full information in our Application Pack.

Applications close at midday on 10th May 2023.
