Heritage Horizons: Cairngorms 2030 - Social science research to support community engagement on the Cairngorms Landscape (2022-2023)

We are undertaking a piece of work for the Cairngorms National Park Authority as part of the Heritage Horizons: Cairngorms 2030 project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to Lottery players.

The Heritage Horizons: Cairngorms 2030 programme aims to put the power to tackle the climate and nature crises in the hands of people who live, visit and work in the Cairngorms, and our work forms part of its development phase.

We are working with Andthen., a consultancy based in Glasgow, to develop and test a survey-based methodology that will help the Park Authority identify the relative importance of the Special Landscape Qualities (SLQs) of the Cairngorms to various communities which affects their preferences for landscape change. These can then be integrated into efforts within the Park to address the future needs of communities as well as the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis.

After testing the methodology on a sample of people who live, work or visit the Cairngorms National Park, we will analyse the survey results, share these with community members, and produce a report with recommendations for the main delivery phase of the Heritage Horizons: Cairngorms 2030 programme.
