Our approach to research and learning means we aim to work alongside members of the land justice movement to build their own research skills, share ideas and learn with each other to ultimately create the land system we envisage. You can find out more about the way we work on our main Research and Learning page.
As part of our work, we offer a range of ‘packages’ to individuals, groups and organisations interested in learning collaboratively about land-related issues. Below you can find out more about these, to see if any of them might be useful for your group:

We can plan and facilitate a workshop on the local food system/local land in your group’s area to help you come to a vision for your work and how you can take the first steps towards this.
As part of the Fringe Farming project, we supported organisations such as Bristol Food Producers to design and run a workshop which brought together a range of stakeholders in Bristol to learn about the city’s history and present context of land access and food growing, before creating a vision of what they would like the area’s food system to look like, and plan some initial actions to work towards this. Afterwards we had a debrief conversation to help them plan next steps.
1 day prep (including a pre-meeting with group), 1 day to run workshop, ½ day to gather learnings/share outputs
3 days total, over one or two months.
Monitoring and Evaluation Framework Development
We can support your group to develop a relevant and manageable approach to monitoring a project you are working on related to land stewardship. We have expertise in Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks demonstrated in our own organisational impact and projects such as the New Entrants into Farming Support Scheme, and can use this to help develop your frameworks.
1 day understanding parameters of the project/group aims, 3 days putting together initial framework, 1 day review/discussion with group, 1 day revision of framework, 1 day training in how to use framework, 1 day further discussion after initial use of framework, 2 day making final edits to framework and sharing with group/planning for future use
10 days total over several months
N.B. We would also consider overall evaluations for certain projects closely related to land justice (this would be a larger piece of work than outlined above)
Bespoke Research on Local Land System (for Food and Farming)
We can help you to produce an informative report on the history and current status of the local land system and its potential for small-scale agroecological farming.

Example Project
As part of the Fringe Farming project, we helped to research and produce briefings on the land and farming in and around Bristol, Sheffield and Glasgow, based on desk research. We produced a final report for each city after incorporating feedback from our local partners, which can be used as a resource by them in future discussions on these topics.

Group Support for Local Land Use and Ownership Mapping
We can work with your local group, and potentially Digital Commons, to help map local land ownership and conditions in a specific area. We can also gain local context by surveying the community on their local needs, attitudes and wants from the land.

£2800 excluding VAT
1 day understanding group aims/discussing potential methods, 2-3 days collectively developing research tools and training in how to use them, 1 day ongoing support as research is carried out, 2 days to support results analysis and write-up, 1 day to discuss next steps/further support required

Learning Partner Support
We can work with your group or several groups over an extended period of time, supporting them to reflect on their practice and / or summarise their learning on a project.
We worked with several organisations piloting ‘Community Improvement Districts’ (as a way to support community-led regeneration of local high streets) to reflect on their activities, learn from each other, and distil the common themes, challenges and opportunities emerging from their work into a report.
1-2 days meeting the group, understanding our role, and planning our work, 4-7 days of organising and running reflective activities/meetings, 4-5 days producing summary of learning (format TBC), 1 day to share summary/discuss
10-15 days over several months
Our aim is that our packages are affordable for low/no-resource groups, so we operate a sliding scale of cost based on the resources you have available - in general we ask groups with a regular income stream to pay fees in line with the estimates above.
Please get in touch with us to discuss your group's needs and resources at research@sharedassets.org.uk.
